1968 Green Beret

This was a good propaganda movie to lift the spirits of the comon soldier and tell him what the war was all about. One sided story. Some reality but a lot of Hollywood. The closing sceen has a major error... It shows the sun setting in the east!!!

1978 Deer Hunter

This is a dark, depressing movie. All the actors are too old for their parts. Bit of an off the wall type of story. Not relating to Vietnam very much at all.

1979 Apocolypse Now

This movie was fun to watch, had a lot of humourous bits mixed in with the serious bits. Envolved many branches of the service. A lot of big name actors. Delt with the fears inherent in being in Vietnam. The Air Cav scenes seemed realistic, except the surfing bit in combat.

An entertaining pay back movie. One man against many. One man with experience against many with very little or none.

1986 Platoon

Seemingly realistic hump through the jungle. All war movies relate warriors as alchoholics ( except Rambo). Drugs were prevelant through that time period so they had to be thrown in. Drunks, drugies, racists, rapists, murderers, cowards, heros, everything that could go wrong was in this movie.

While everything depicted in this movie did take place, the Director made it appear as if this was the norm and not the unusaual. It was not the norm for Americans to commit the attrocities depicted in this film.

1987 Full Metal Jacket

Glad I wasnt in the Marines, though to me Army basic wasnt no cake walk. Seemed very realistic.

Probably the best movie about the Vietnam War yet made. Based on the Battle for the Ia Drang Valley, it shows 3 days of the first confrontation between American combat troops and North Vietnamese Regulars.
