American Legion Post #318 MORTON ILLINOIS |
Americanism Chairman

Micah Skaggs
Americanism includes the following areas of the American Legion.
BOYS STATE
American Legion Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for high school students. It is a participatory program where each participant becomes a part of the operation of his local, county, and state government. Boys State has been a program of The American Legion since 1935.
CITIZENSHIP AWARD
Each year the teachers at Morton High School nominate students whom they feel depict the best in citizenship from the graduating class. The nominated students are interviewed by a committee of Legion members who make the final selection. The winners recieve a small monetary award and a part in the Memorial Day Ceremony.
SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
Every year Post 318 gives out several small scholarships to students from Morton High school. These scholarships are based on several factors.
MEMORIAL DAY GRAVE DECORATIONS
Every Memorial day Post 318 honors the departed veterans burried in Morton's cemetaries by placing a flag on every grave of a veteran buried in Morton.
MEMORIAL DAY SERVICES
Memorial Day is important to the members of Post 318. We begin the day with a breakfast which is free to all veterans. Then at 11:00am we hold a Memorial Day service that honors our departed brothers and sisters.
